Baseball covers the months no other pool does. The MLB season runs from late March to late September with the postseason into early November — which is exactly the stretch when your football pool has not started and every winter pool has finished. The 2026 MLB season is already loaded.
The pool that owns the summer
Ask a commissioner when their pool is and you will hear “September to January” almost every time. The other seven months are simply left empty, not because anyone decided to but because nobody thought about it. Baseball is the obvious answer, and it is underrated precisely because so few groups run one.
Expectations are low, nobody has a system yet, and a hundred and sixty-two games is long enough that a slow start means nothing. It is the most relaxed pool on the calendar, which is the correct energy for July.
Nearly every day is a lot of games
Baseball plays almost daily, so curation is not optional — it is the whole design of the pool:
Curate the slate. The commissioner selects which games appear on the pick sheet, so a week becomes eight or ten games your group actually cares about instead of everything on the calendar.
Cap picks per week. Show a bigger card but require each player to pick a set number from it, which lets people play to the teams and nights they actually follow.
Picks lock at game time. Games tip and drop all week, so automatic locking matters more here than it does in a once-a-week sport.
Standings rebuild themselves. Weekly and year-to-date tables update as results come in, which is the only way a long season stays readable.
Which format to pick
A pick’em pool on ten selected games a week is the format that keeps a summer pool alive without turning it into homework. Baseball is famously the sport where the best team loses sixty times, so straight win-loss picking stays genuinely competitive all season — nobody runs away with it.
A confidence pool works on the same curated slate if your group wants ranking to matter. It suits baseball better than you might guess, because being confident in a baseball game is a real skill and being right about it is rarer than in any other sport.
A survivor pool is the one to be careful with. Daily play means eliminations come fast, so define your weekly window before you start or the pool can be over by May.

It is free for up to 4 players, then roughly $3 per additional player over the free four, $2 per player (30–99) and $1 (100+), billed annually. Billing counts unique people, so anyone already in your football pool is not a second seat when they join this one — which makes a second pool far cheaper than most commissioners assume.
